Weekend Window Shopping

It's been a while since I've done a weekend window shopping post. I haven't been tempted by much lately, and it feels good.

That is, until I set foot into Target last week. I try to stay away since I end up walking out with a few items I didn't plan on, but I'm really happy about this week's loot:

A cheaper alternative to my Equipment blouse crush... Target online stock photo doesn't do it justice. It's nice and flowy.

I've never used a primer before, and this goes on velvety smooth and makes the MAC powder I like to use look more natural and even.

The last thing I needed was another pair of black boots, but I've worn these every day this week, which counts for something in the weird way I try to justify impulse purchases.

Kirna Zabete designer collaboration.

At least I had some restraint with these pillows, but only because my living room is already an overflowing pillow den. At $23.99-$29.99, these are still cheaper than most killim/kilum woven items I've seen.

September Mix

This month's playlist is heavy on Jaill (Sub-Pop) and Fergus & Geronimo (Hardly Art) since they were in town last weekend. What a great group of guys. Jaill even made us tacos, left us coffee and records, and walked our dog. Talk about good house guests!

I also got some good news last week: Critical Heights, a London label I handle US publicity for, signed Scott & Charlene's Wedding, and will be re-releasing Para Vista Social Club. Jangly Aussie slacker-pop. There are a few tracks from a split EP on this mix.

Enjoy.

Places We Love: Southern Vision

Southern Vision is one of my favorite shops in Athens. It seems like it's difficult sometimes for vintage boutiques in any city to differentiate themselves, and really stand out with their own personality. Southern Vision has their own voice as a shop. Below Jittery Joes downtown on Broad St, you'll find skate supplies, band tees printed by the owner Clancy, a large, organized record selection, and of course, vintage. Everything is reasonably priced, so you'll have a few bucks leftover for a Southern Vision totebag.

Southern Vision is giving away one of my favorite shirts they carry, Dolly Parton grinnin' big with a sweet little kitty cat.

Quinoa Tabouli

quinoa tabouli

Some of my favorite recipes don't require any measuring. This is the kind of dish you can match to your taste preference. Love tomatoes? Use a bunch. Hate garlic? I don't understand you, but ease up on it.

Album/Outfit: Swans - "The Seer"

The Seer, the new LP from Swans, is available now from Young God Records.
Album: Swans - The Seer

“The Seer took 30 years to make. It’s the culmination of every previous Swans album as well as any other music I’ve ever made, been involved in or imagined. But it’s unfinished, like the songs themselves. It’s one frame in a reel. The frames blur, blend and will eventually fade.

The songs began on an acoustic guitar, then were fleshed out with (invaluable) help from my friends, then were further tortured and seduced in rehearsals, live and in the studio, and now they await further cannibalism and force-feeding as we prepare to perform some of them live, at which point they’ll mutate further, endlessly, or perhaps be discarded for a while.

Despite what you might have heard or presumed, my quest is to spread light and joy through the world. My friends in Swans are all stellar men. Without them I’m a kitten, an infant. Our goal is the same: ecstasy!" - Michael Gira, of Swans

Loie Fuller Photographs

Via the all-knowing Wikipedia, "Loie Fuller [also Loïe Fuller] (January 15, 1862 – January 1, 1928) was a pioneer of both modern dance and theatrical lighting techniques. Fuller began her theatrical career as a professional child actress and later choreographed and performed dances in burlesque (as a skirt dancer), vaudeville, and circus shows. An early free dance practitioner, Fuller developed her own natural movement and improvisation techniques. Fuller combined her choreography with silk costumes illuminated by multi-coloured lighting of her own design."

Stumbled across these images on one of my current favorite websites, Retronaut.
