Inspiration: Happy Birthday, Dolly Parton!

What a week of birthdays- Martin Luther King, Jr., Francoise Hardy, and this weekend, Dolly Parton. I'm reviving this post from a few years back, and adding to it to celebrate all things Dolly. And mark my words: this WILL be the year I make it to Dollywood.

Guest Post: Dear Hearts' Gift Guide

This holiday season, I gathered gift guides and wish lists from local businesses, creative-types, friends, bloggers, makers, and do-ers I admire. Gifts are by no means the important part of the holidays, but I wanted to give local makers a chance to toot their own horns, and it's fun to peek into friends' wish lists.

Today's guest post comes from my North Carolina friends Dear Hearts. Have you ever walked into a store and felt like the buyers reached into your brain and stocked all the things you'd choose for yourself? That's how I feel about Dear Hearts. Their mobile shop, headquarters, and online store are all curated to perfection.

They also have a special discount for Arrowhead readers! From now through 12/20/13, you'll receive 10% off with the code ARROWHEAD!

Hi from Dear Hearts in Durham, NC! We're two best buds and we just recently opened our store which started out as a wild daydream for us and now is this awesome part of our everyday life. When we're shopping for each other, holiday gifting is pretty easy. We just buy whatever we want for ourselves and then wrap it up and give it the other person. Of course, it's not always that easy so we've made this handy gift guide for the ladies and dudes in your lives.

Ball Perfect Mason 100th Anniversary

Good news if you're a mason jar nut like me: to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Perfect Mason jar, Ball is re-releasing those pretty pale blue vintage jars for a limited time. The true vintage jars aren't hard to find at antique stores and flea markets, but they'll run you $10 - $15 a pop. I collect blue glass for the kitchen anyway, so these are a bargain at six 1-pint jars and lids for $8.99. Purchase here.

Arrowhead Vintage booth at Agora

Welp, I forgot to make an important announcement way back in November. Arrowhead Vintage, this blog's namesake side-hustle, now has a booth in the brick-and-mortar vintage boutique Agora, in downtown Athens, GA. (I also set them up an Instagram account. Follow @agora_vintage!)

The vintage items are sourced partly from my stock from Ohh, Boy!, a vintage shop I had a few years back with my pal Kimberly, and partly from my own borderline-hoarder closet. I also stock new accessories if you're into American flags, turquoise, skulls, and Southwestern vibes.

After several of you asking if I would ship, I've started working on a storefront page for this blog (thanks for sharing your knowledge, Natasha). It will be new accessories, with the occasional vintage item. I feel better selling most vintage at Agora, unless it's so pristine that I could smoothly sell it to someone based on photos alone. I'm excited to learn more HTML while building the shop page!

Weekly Recap:

Started the week with huevos rancheros brunch at El Tlaloc (Chase St., Athens, GA.) It's one of my favorite Mexican restaurants (it's really El Salvadorian and Mexican) in Athens.
Saw "The Artist" at Cine. Definitely one for the theatre. I think a lot of the silent film charm and use of the score would be lost on a home TV or laptop.
Work lunch with my work sibling. Did you know Trappeze has has french onion soup and a gruyere grilled cheese for $5? Now you know.
A valentine record from the dude. This guys aces it every time in the gift-giving department.
Pretty proud of myself for this one. My guy had to work Valentines Day night, so I showed up with a pizza (topped with thinly sliced hard salami and banana peppers.)
My first ever liner note thank you from the sweet guys of Future Islands. I cried a little when I found out about this over the summer, and may or may not have cried a little when I saw it in person. PR isn't always a thankless job.
My new Sao Paolo internet friend sent me his music and artwork.
Colossus at Caledonia Friday night. More about there here.
I've been collecting these coffee mugs over the years from thrift stores. Two of my favotes: Canada Animals and Yellowstone. One the way to the flea market Saturday morning.
The flea market wasn't exactly hoppin'...
But I still had some great scores.
Found this neat Grateful Dead songbook at the flea market for a few bucks. Posted the rest of the artwork here.
Tangerine Dream, Apple iDream.
Did a double feature at Varsity and The Dogg Pound to compare their technique. Blog post coming soon.
This guy was ghost-writing some blog posts.
Posted a giveaway for this Bruce Springsteen journal made from damaged vinyl LPs
Posted some surreal psychedelic art from Pena Branca.
Accidentally went to work dressed like a cave woman.
Found a great vintage dress at Agora. Now I just need to find an occasion to wear it.
Acquired some new additions to the record collection.
Closed out the weekend with a few minutes at home to straighten up my house. Now that my bangs are all grown out, I just want to cut them again. Anyone else feel the same way?
