This holiday season, I gathered gift guides and wish lists from local businesses, creative-types, friends, bloggers, makers, and do-ers I admire. Gifts are by no means the important part of the holidays, but I wanted to give local makers a chance to toot their own horns, and it's fun to peek into friends' wish lists. So far we've heard from beautyeveryday, Edith on Fashion, ScoutMob, Community, and Double Dutch Press. Don't forget to check out the exclusive discount codes many of these shops included in their posts!
Today's gift guide is from talented jeweler and metal-smith Laurel Hill. We Athenians have known for a long time how talented she is, but this year national retailers like Free People took note as well.
When every woman I know wants Laurel Hill for Christmas (it's impossible to go wrong with anything she makes) I wanted to know: What does Laurel Hill want?
"I looove the holiday season, but as a maker/business owner/shipping captain/customer service rep/craft show envoy, it’s the most insane time of year, and I feel like I might implode at any second. These are gifts that can be enjoyed at any time, no matter how busy you are, because when there are a million things to do, it’s the small stuff that helps keep your stress levels down-- an organized(ish) house or studio, a candle that smells amazing, a nice mug for your 5th cup of coffee. Of course, nothing beats friends and family for joy and relaxation, but the point of a Gift Guide is gifts, and all of these are functional, beautiful, and made in America by small, independent businesses. Also, you can’t go wrong with handmade jewelry, so check out my website, if you feel so inclined--" - Laurel

Beauty Everyday is another great book to peek at when I need to decompress for a minute. The photos are gorgeous, and I can always use a dose of the South out here in California. $98
I'm still bitter about missing her last online sale. Following these links should protect you from the regret I'm feeling:
